Bastard - On the Way to Santa Fe

For years, now, I have thought that government insanity ran its route directly through the streets of Los Angeles. I am not so certain, anymore.

It seems that government insanity has made a major stop in Santa Fe New Mexico. You see, the city of Santa Fe is considering passing a law that will require pet owners to provide restraints (seat belts) for dogs, cats and ferrets while traveling in cars. They want to make sure that these pets don't fly out the windows of cars.

Now, I have never seen a dog, cat or ferret fly out of the window of a car, ever. It makes me wonder if anyone is keeping statistics on flying animals.

The Santa Fe city council says that they are concerned about the safety of the animals. And, I could understand it if they considered passing a law that would require the tethering of an animal in the bed of a truck. After all, a good bump could send the animal flying through space. And, though it might make for a funny moment on a sit-com, it would not be funny in real life.

While they are considering this law, I wonder if they are considering what would happen if someone were in a wreck and the paramedics had to enter the vehicle.

I am imagining a scene where a dog is strapped into the seat of a car. The driver of the car gets into an accident that leaves him injured and unconcious. As the paramedics attempt to cut the driver out of the car, the drivers dog, normally calm and friendly, attacks the paramedics, biting one of them.

As the cops arrive on the scene, another set of paramedics arrives. These paramedics are for the the paramedic who has already been mauled by the dog. Police and paramedics attempt to calm the dog so that they can free the driver from his predicament. And, by the time they are able to get to the driver, he is dead.

Relatives of the driver decide to sue the city of Santa Fe for allowing the driver to die. The city is forced to pay 20 million dollars to the drivers family.

Meanwhile, the paramedic who was brutally mauled by the dog files a suit against Santa Fe for permanent loss of body parts and his inability to work.. On top of that he would sue for emotional trauma - the paramedic had to give his dog to a shelter because he was now afraid of dogs and couldn't be around them without getting the shakes.

Finally, the dog that attacked the paramedics had to be put down because it mauled a human being.

Good thing he was wearing a seat belt!
