One more reason that New York Sucks...
There is a man who is currently being prosecuted for exercising a right guaranteed him by the US Constitution. You see, this right wasn’t properly licensed or registered.
Since when can you be arrested and prosecuted for exercising a Constitutional right? Since Ronald Dixon shot an intruder, that’s when.
On Dec. 14, Dixon shot a career burglar who broke into his Canarsie NY house. Dixon used a 9-mm. pistol legally purchased in Florida. He was in the process of getting it registered in New York where he had moved and is currently being prosecuted.
District Attorney Charles Hynes has said through a spokesman that he cannot condone the use of an unlicensed gun.
Now, the last time that I checked you didn’t have to be licensed to exercise a right guaranteed by the US Constitution. I have looked all over for my free speech license and my due process license and my privacy license and I can’t find them anywhere. And upon rereading the US Constitution it doesn’t indicate the need for any license before exercising a right. So, the notion that a governments lead prosecutor wants a Constitutional Right licensed is simply appalling.
Now, beyond that, this man was trying to get his gun registered as per the law. Of course, things aren’t so easy with government that you can do this over night. Apparently it takes time to make a Constitutional Right legal in New York. So, the papers were in process.
In the mean time he has his house broken in to and shoots the intruder who has a rap sheet as long as my arm. Now, because he didn’t have his gun registered in New York he is a criminal even though he was going through the proper channels to make it so.
So, to break this down into simple terms…Ronald Dixon exercised an unlicensed right guaranteed in the US Constitution. He defended his life against a criminal. Now, he is the bad guy and deserves to go to jail.
Life in Bizarro world? Nah, just New York.
