Hurricane Katrina
Katrina: one of the most destructive hurricanes that the citizens of the US have ever seen. Such was the power of Katrina that, besides destroying property, it wreaked havoc with the local flora and fauna, flooding the streets of New Orleans and driving thousands of people from their homes.
In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina bodies from those who could not escape the destruction were recovered. Disease is now expected and cemeteries have likely given up their residents.
The response from the federal government was nothing if not slow. The governor of Louisiana has reacted furiously at George Bush, due to the failures of his administration to provide promised buses to rescue people seeking refuge at the Superdome and convention center.
Across the internet a letter by Michael Moore has been circulating castigating George Bush for the slow response of the federal government, suggesting that the reaction was motivated by bigotry and hatred towards blacks.
The mass media has, likewise, been circulating reports of the failures of the federal government, pointing out the obvious flaws in the preparedness and plans in case of a state of emergency.
But wait; back up the buses a bit. There is something not quite right with this picture
It's interesting that the only person who took on any sort of responsibility for anything was president Bush who admitted that the federal response was inadequate and promised to remedy that situation. Everyone else, meanwhile, was pointing fingers at everyone else - especially at Bush.
It seems odd to me that this disaster has been so locked on to Bush when you consider all the details. But then details have never been the concern of any media outlet or media whore, like Moore,. They all just want exposure and ratings, regardless of the truth.
But what is it that the media and Moore could have missed in this disaster? Could it be that there were four whole days of warning before the hurricane struck pay dirt? And, considering the warnings, that this was going to be a whopper of a hurricane, shouldn't the citizens of Louisiana have taken refuge somewhere out of the likely range of the hurricane?
And yes, I know that not all of the residents are equipped with automobiles. But, couldn't the governor, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, have provided assistance to those people? Why didn't she do something in the four days leading to Katrina touching land? Could it be that she is the racist and hater of blacks? After all, she had four days to prepare and to save so many citizens of Louisiana. So, why isn't Moore pointing this out?
And what about the state legislators? They had ample opportunity to get something going. Why aren't they held accountable for not encouraging the governor to do something before the hurricane hit?
You know what would have been really cool the Louisiana state legislature to have done? They could have fixed the levy that gave way. They knew that the levy was in bad shape. In fact, had the levy not given way the city of New Orleans would not be in the shape it is in today - under water. Had the levy been maintained or safeguards installed the city of New Orleans would still be above water and thousands of people would not be in the sad shape they are in.
Since the real problem was the poor shape of the levy and the legislators failure to appropriate the funds to maintain it one must ask; why didn't they maintain it? Were they hoping to have it break and flood New Orleans so it could kill all the minorities in New Orleans?
Hmm, upon analyzing the facts and history of the region - the lack of levy maintenance, the ignoring of warnings that the levy was not going to hold up, the four days of not preparing for the hurricane I have to conclude that the state of Louisiana did everything in it's power to save all of those people who were harmed or killed. Michael Moore is right and president Bush did nothing because he is a racist and hater of blacks - especially Louisiana blacks.
Meanwhile, I overheard Jerry Falwell tell this joke:
How is a hurricane like a woman?
It screams when it cums and takes the house when it goes.
