Gettin' it on With Ghettopoly...
In keeping with the truest spirit of capitalism, a guy by the name of Chang has created a game called Ghettopoly. It's sort of a tacky version of the old Monopoly game by Hasbro.
The game entails "playas" going around the board and buying properties and erecting crack houses and pimping "hoes". Instead of "community chest" and "chance" cards you get cards like "ghetto Stash" and "Hustle". Truly, this is a game for those with a sense of humor and a taste for the tacky. I may buy my own copy, soon.
Amazingly, this game has black leaders in a tizzy. Not only are they claiming that it is tacky, but they are claiming that it's racist and want the game banned. They have threatened to boycott the store that sell the game, too.
This is truly a sad statement on the parts of the so-called black leaders. After all, they are pissing and moaning over a game that ridicules drug use, pimping, whoring and other criminal acts. Where do they get the nerve?
Interestingly, if you claim that a game that ridicules these actions is racist, you must believe that it is a certain race that commits these crimes. So, if you claim that the game is racist against black folks you must believe that these crimes are committed, mostly, by black folks. So, these black leaders must believe that the majority of these crimes are committed by blacks. Hmm, who is the racist here?
Wait - the characters in the game are black, so it is clearly racist, you say? Well, isn't that representative of those who promote "pimpin'" and "hoin'" and other criminal acts? I mean, you don't see Billy Joel singing about that sort of thing - you see Dr Dre and Snoop Dog and 50 Cent rapping about it. So, really, the game is representative of those who are promoting and talking about it.
That brings up another point; why are they griping about a game that ridicules criminal behavior while, at the same time, ignoring the Snoop Dog's and the Dr Dre's who make "music" promoting these very activities? Is it all right for black rappers to promote pimping, gang banging and other sorts of criminal activity but not all right for anyone (who isn't black) to make fun of it? Judging by the actions of these so-called black leaders, it is.
Going another route, why are they pissed at the game instead of being pissed the lowlifes who inspired it? Why don't they concern themselves with the disease instead of a symptom? After all, you would think that they would be more concerned over the crime instead of something that points out and ridicules the crime and the criminals.
Of course, if you follow the money trail you will see that the so-called black leaders do not get their money from those who oppose the promotion of these criminal activities. They don't make money if they point out the failures within their own communities. They get their money from the people who buy Snoop Dog, Dr Dre and 50 Cent records. They get their money by screaming racism at every opportunity - and they do.
Will the real "Ho" stand up and take a bow, please?
